“Love how the coldness of the blue contrasts with the little warmth of the flower! It feels to me that he’s in grief. He creates a barrier between himself and the flower with his hand, but still, the eyes can not help but seek a connection with the flower. There is resistance in the eyes, too, but also a temptation and a desire to grow side by side with the flower. It feels to me that no matter how much he tries to be separated, his coldness & the warmth of the flower merge together in one space and affect each other. It is like he is saying, “You will bloom without me, I’m scared to make you feel cold, but I’ll hold you anyway because I can not resist your warmth.” Great painting!”
