About Sergiu Ciochina
About
Sergiu Ciochina is a contemporary painter based in Paris. His work engages the human condition through an expressive figurative language in which the body becomes a site of tension, vulnerability, and inner reflection. Rooted in painting, his practice unfolds through gesture, material density, and chromatic intensity, allowing emotional states to surface without narrative insistence.
Born in Moldova in 2001, Ciochina graduated from the Chisinau College of Arts in 2021. After relocating to Paris in 2023, his work gained formal clarity and conceptual focus. In May 2025, he made his Parisian debut with a solo exhibition presenting over forty works, marking a decisive moment in the public articulation of his practice.
Central to his recent production is an ongoing body of work dominated by blue tonalities, where color operates as both structure and emotion. Figures appear restrained or fragmented, gestures are reduced, and faces remain subdued, creating a suspended visual space charged with introspection and quiet intensity. The surfaces, built through layered brushwork and palette knife, emphasize tactility and presence.
Engaging with the legacy of modern figurative painting while asserting a distinct contemporary voice, the artist privileges sensation over illustration and emotional resonance over representation. Each painting functions as an autonomous field, inviting prolonged contemplation and an intimate encounter with vulnerability, silence, and human fragility.
